Chapter 14

Huntley

So we were back right where we started.

The part that sucked about being back in London and realizing that we needed Persephone to help us was the fact that I had just saw her a few days before we found out we needed her. And that I had yelled at her and blamed her for everything. In front of her mother no less. Why did he always make things more difficult? It was my curse, I guess.

Pothos and I were at the flat, grabbing some food to snack on before heading out to the streets to find Persephone. I hadn’t told them yet about what had happened, and how I had yelled at her about how worthless she was. And how she was a shitty mom. I didn’t particularly want to tell Prometheus since he would just call me a stupid human. Pothos would at least understand where I was coming from.

Prometheus and Mel had already gone out to search for Persephone, or at least that is what they said they were doing. I didn’t doubt they would eventually get around to it, or just keep an eye out for her, but were actually just spending the day out and about. At least they were out of my hair now.

Pothos and I would check South Kensington, where I saw her last. He figured she would be in that area because of Harrods. I bit my tongue on how I already knew that until we were alone.

As Pothos lathered jelly on his PB&J, I finally told him the truth. “Hey Pothos, I already ran into Persephone like a week ago.”

His eyes darted over at me. “What?”

“I ran into her near Harrods like a week ago.”

He put down the spreading knife. “What did you do?”

“Okay, why do you assume I did something?”

“Well, did you?”

I nodded. “Yeah.”

“That’s why. Damn it Huntley, why can’t you ever keep your mouth shut?”

I shrugged. “I don’t know, honestly. I mean you would think of how many times my parents hit me for back-talking, something would have stuck.”

Pothos sighed. “I swear, what am I going to do with you? Seriously, you realize you could have pissed her off so much that she will never talk to us again, right?”

I knew that and it had been eating away at me. I wanted to tell him earlier but I knew he would be pissed, just like he was now. But now at least Prometheus wouldn’t be here to judge me.

“You make fun of Mel all the time,” I commented, even though I knew it had nothing to do with this conversation. I was just trying to make myself feel better.

“That is different and you know that. We are friends, sort of, and she gets free rent. She chooses to put up with my bullshit.”

He had a point. I was actually the one to be staying at Persephone’s home for free for a few years. Now that I thought about it, was I staying there for free since I was dead? I guess it really was Hades’ home.
